Captives | 2020

Various sizes. Sculptural installations composed of wires and natural elements such as roots, branches, nests. “Captive” in the sense of imprisonment as well as seduction. Which reflects our relationship with nature, we are fascinated by it and at the same time we massacre it. “it is a series of sculptural pieces made from wire, a common material for fences and borders, in areas where we certify ownership. More than denouncing the updating of colonial violence, these works can also help us understand how our rationality brought us here: there was never democracy, there was never justice, we never knew how to respect the land. Cartesian thought contributed to the separation between body and mind, between nature and culture, whose hierarchy, today, it is urgent to break.” Ulisses Carrilho & Bruna Costa Curatorial text for the exhibition “Everything in the world is People”, 2021, Z42 Arte, Rio de Janeiro.
